Preserving your public persona could cost you your health—or even your life!
Your public persona is your social facade—the manners, character, emotions, style of dress, speech, and anything else that helps create an image identifiable as “you.” You depend on your outward-facing “you” to help you navigate relationships and challenges, even if your public persona is different from your true nature.
Getting good care may demand checking your public persona at the exam room door and baring yourself to your healthcare team, physically and with truths you prefer keeping private. Between visits, you may need to adjust your public persona to accommodate changes in your condition.
DEAR BLOGGERS, I NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE: I’m exploring “Patient Care and the Public Persona” for a writing project. You can help me by responding confidentially to the question below with a private message via my direct email or my website’s contact page. For those of you who feel comfortable sharing with other Bloggers on Healthy Survivorship, please respond in the comments box below. THANK YOU!
How do you feel after a doctor visit where you shared facts, thoughts or feelings you usually keep private?
