It’s good and bad how the evolving Corona story has put the dangers of viral infections center stage. As someone living with immunodeficiency, the good news is that now more people…
Call in sick, instead of going to work or school while symptomatic.
Talk positively about vaccinations.
The bad news is the risk of Corona virus, of course, but also the challenge of hearing about that risk every day.
As a Healthy Survivor, I obtain knowledge about the situation. This empowers me to take whichever steps are available to decrease my overall risk and to increase the chance of picking up problems early, when they may be most treatable.
Once I’m doing all I can, I let my knowledge of the risks and warning signs slip into the background, until needed. After all, we can know something without thinking about it all the time. (We know the risk of driving without thinking about it every time we drive.)
As for coping with the barrage of reminders, I’m …
Continuing to take health-promoting measures (healthful diet, good sleep, etc.)
Reminding myself that most people do well, even the immunocompromised.
Avoiding reading and talking about Corona, after I’ve learned what I need to know today.
Reaffirming my commitment to reporting symptoms and working with my healthcare team.
Embracing the day.
